Assistance to Ventilation in Spontaneously Breathing Subjects

چکیده
In five supine normal subjects breathing spontaneously, we studied the effects of high-frequency chest wall oscillation (HFCWO), which was achieved by oscillating the pressure in an air-filled cuff wrapped around the lower thorax. Oscillations of 3.5 and 8 Hz (in randomized order) were applied for 15 minutes each at both maximal (mean of 90 to 102cm H,O) and half-maximal peak tolerable cuff preSSures. Fifteen minutes of control spontaneous ventilation preceded each HFCWO maneuver. The HFCWO resulted in a significant decrease in spontaneous minute ventilation (‘ Es) at maximal and half-maximal pressures by 35 and 40 per-

Evaluation of respiratory inductive plethysmography in the measurement of breathing pattern and PEEP-induced changes in lung volume.
STUDY OBJECTIVE To assess the accuracy of the respiratory inductive plethysmography in the measurement of PEEP-induced changes in end-expiratory lung volume during mechanical ventilation and its accuracy and stability in the measurement of ventilation during controlled mechanical ventilation and spontaneous breathing. DESIGN An open comparison between two methods using a criterion standard. E...

STUDY OBJECTIVES To evaluate the effects of spontaneous breathing at ambient airway pressure (Paw) and during airway pressure release ventilation (APRV) on respiratory work and respiratory muscle blood flow (RMBF) in experimental lung injury. DESIGN Prospective experimental study. SETTING Research laboratory of a university hospital. SUBJECTS Twelve hemodynamically stable, analgosedated, ...
متن کاملEffects of negative pressure assisted ventilation on dyspnoeic sensation and breathing pattern.
Although negative pressure assisted ventilation with an assist-control mode may have a potential therapeutic role in the treatment of severe dyspnoea, the effects of negative pressure assisted ventilation with the assist-control mode on dyspnoea and breathing patterns have not been examined. We examined the effects of negative pressure assisted ventilation with the assist-control mode on dyspno...
متن کاملCardioventilatory coupling: effects of IPPV.
Cardioventilatory coupling (CVC) is the temporal coherence of respiratory and cardiac rhythms. We have suggested that this coherence is the result of triggering of inspiratory onset by a preceding cardiovascular afferent. One implication of this triggering hypothesis is that coupling should only exist under conditions of spontaneous ventilation and not under conditions where the ventilatory per...

Background and Objective: Breathing through the nose and mouth is one of the controversial issues during exercise. The present study was scheduled to investigate a quantitative approach to habitual versus the obligatory switching point from nasal to oronasal breathing during exercise as well as coincidence of soft palate movement as the main aims of this study, that has not been studied previou...
